Restless Heart

I stayed up late last night and put off doing my mind-boggling BIS homework to finish Restless Heart by Wynonna Judd. Although you really can’t judge a book by its cover, this one pulled me in by the picture. Cowboy hat, guitar and flowing shirt. Plus, and keep this on the DL, part of me has always wanted to play guitar and sing in smokey honky tonks. 😉

The story follows Destiny Hart, a military brat who decides to pursue a career in the music industry despite her father’s insistence that she go to college. The bulk of the novel begins when Destiny is discovered by a Nashville producer the day after her childhood buddy, Seth- who she has long had a crush on- shows up at the bar and grill where she works as a waitress. The story follows Destiny as she embarks upon a career as a musician and works to create a relationship with Seth. A secondary story line follows Destiny’s parents and their relationship as they struggle to define it when both their children are gone and it’s just the two of them.

I enjoyed this book; it was warm and real and focused heavily on relationships rather than the music business. It’s about people being true to themselves and willing to follow their dreams despite the lack of support from those they love. And I think I might have developed a small crush on the main male character…what can I say, he wears a baseball cap.
